Multirate 4x10G Optical Active Cable

Blazar

Overview

Blazar (LUX5010) is a monolithic optoelectronic Optical Active Cable assembly containing four complete fiber optic transceivers per end, each operating at data rates from 1 to 10.5 Gbps and supporting a reach up to 300 meters. This integrated cable solution provides low cost reliable transport for aggregated data rates up to 40 Gbps (4X10 Gbps). Blazar offers customers the flexibility of traditional optical modules by interfacing mechanically to systems via a standard QSFP MSA form factor. The cable is electrically compliant with the SFP+ interface supporting InfiniBand, Ethernet, Fibre Channel and other applications.

The permanently attached fiber optic cable is built using low cost single-mode fiber resulting in higher performance and longer reach than copper and multimode fiber solutions. Permanently attached transceivers to the fiber optic cable effectively shield the optical interface from environmental contaminants such as dust, and protect it from scratching during installation; thereby dramatically reducing operational costs while improving overall network performance. Moreover, Blazar enables high bandwidth density designs that were previously front-panel constrained by legacy copper and optical form-factors.

Patented Technology

Blazar is the industry’s first optical active cable solution based on Luxtera’s patented CMOS Photonics™ intellectual property, implemented on a single die using a standard .13 micron SOI CMOS process. This unprecedented level of integration using standard manufacturing processes provides customers with dramatic improvements in power consumption, footprint and reliability.

Markets

Blazar is targeted for data center interconnect in Local Area Networks (LANs), HPC Computer Clusters, Storage Area Networks (SANs), system stacking and Rack-to-Rack connections.
